Drowning Out Lucifer

The morning star crashed down upon the earth
From the glowing crater the burning angel stood and raised their head
and cast their eyes towards the heavens
coveting the throne up there in pain

All above from horizon to horizon stretched the ruddy dome
For the apes had banned the night
drowned it in a sea of light
until they blotted out the stars themselves

The angel prepared to storm the sky
But with the milky way washed up
they lost direction in ascent
Careened back down to cry:

Apes, what have you done to us?
We aimed to bring down the gods themselves,
but now we fail to see the stars for the sky itself
Can the glow that drowned the devil truly slake the thirst of apes?

You may have repealed the dark and beat us
but for you apes only twilight shall remain
